New Article on Intercultural Theory

Dr. Hammonds' work on intercultural communication theory has been published in the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research (from Taylor & Francis). The article advances Eric M. Kramer's Theory of Dimensional Accrual and Dissociation ("DAD"), and is also co-authored with Dr. Kramer. The paper essentially maps out the relationship(s) that may form between consciousness and expression (communication), and imagines how unique configurations of these relationships impact intercultural contact. As an interdisciplinary theory with communication applications, DAD draws on wisdom from communication, sociology, social psychology, and philosophy - especially phenomenology and hermeneutics - to suggest novel ways of studying intercultural interactions. The major contributions include: a) Mapping relationships between consciousness and expression in intercultural contexts b) Suggesting that difference is imbued with positive potential, rather than viewing it as an external variable or obstacle to be overcome c) Synthesizing literature that places positive value on communicative difference into a single, coherent framework
