On Thursday 4/13/23, Dr. Hammonds was honored at the University of Oklahoma Department of Communication annual award banquet. The faculty awarded him the Dan & Mary John O'Hair scholarship. The description of the award, designated the O'Hair "Outstanding Graduate Student" scholarship, from the OU Comm Department website reads: "Since 2012, the award has honored a graduate student who excels in teaching, research, and service."
This honor was given in recognition of Dr. Hammonds' work in the three aforementioned areas - teaching, research, and service - for his last year as a doctoral student (2022 - 2023). The award was presented by Dr. Norman Wong who had served as a member on Dr. Hammonds' dissertation committee. In his presentation speech, Dr. Wong focused on pointing out accomplishments such as publication record, volunteer work for the Communication Graduate Student Association, and outstanding teaching evaluations.
Dr. Hammonds continues his efforts in teaching, research, and service: he is currently teaching Public Speaking at OU and Special Topics in Media at Mid-America Christian University. Furthermore, he is presenting research to conferences throughout this coming summer (2023) which includes topics on hermeneutics & comics as well as representations of transhumanism in contemporary media.
