A paper co-authored by Dr. Hammonds and his mentor, Dr. Eric Kramer, was recently published in Filosofija/Sociologija ("Philosophy & Sociology"). The article takes a phenomenological approach to the subject of chanting - especially focusing on how chanting is occasionally weaponized to dim rational thinking in political contexts. The major argument is that communication facilitating purely reflexive, collective (mob-like) identities is a danger to democratic deliberation because of its distraction from reflective thinking and resistance to [counter]evidence. (Dr. Kramer is publishing a second part of the article that is scheduled to release later this year. ) The journal is open-access, and you can read the article HERE.
