Routledge Handbook with Contribution from Kyle Available for Pre-Order

The Routledge Handbook of Public Speaking - featuring an essay from Dr. Hammonds - is now available for preorder. His contribution, Public Speaking and Theatre: A Joint Tradition, traces the history of how public speaking has been taught in the United States. The chapter specifically examines two traditions of Speech - one associated with social science and the other with performance & humanities - initially developed in tandem before eventually growing apart. Dr. Hammonds calls for a refocused attention to how both traditions can inform contemporary public speaking pedagogy. A version of the essay printed in the Routledge Handbook was previously presented at the National Communication Association and won 2nd place in the Top Paper panel for the Theatre, Film, and New Multimedia division.
